Ride the Wave" is a very important saying to me that I hold near and dear to my heart. When my panic attacks started getting horrible around 2018-2019, I sought out to read a TON of self-help books and listen to a ton of podcasts.
DARE, by Barry Mcdonagh, was one book that helped me a lot. Barry states to "Ride the Wave" of anxiety instead of pushing against it - life changing! In the past, when I would feel a panic attack coming on, I would freak out; my brain would be saying "Red alert, red alert, red alert!". Of course, this made my panic attacks 10x worse. When you surrender yourself to your panic, you stop fighting it and simply acknowledge that it is there and acknowledge that IT WILL pass.
Now in 2020, I am still not 100% panic free but I know to ride the wave and let it pass instead of fighting back with all my might, it is much much easier to tell your body "It's okay, this will pass, let's just ride the wave." You may come out of it still sweaty with a racing heart, but you have made it to the other side nonetheless.
When I was dealing with depression caused by anxiety, I also spent a ton of time at the beach with my pups, I got a special sea-shell tattoo to remind me of this and correlate the ocean and the beach with tranquility. The beach and waves are held with care in my California heart!
